Voices of Women Astronomers
Impossible Conversations with Women Astronomers from other Times.
Voices of Women Astronomers is a project that started for the Cagliari Festival of Science 2018 and is being presented again online for the European Researchers’ Night 2020.
The project stems from the realization that women, although perhaps fewer in number and sometimes excluded from formal educational paths, have significantly contributed to scientific development in general and to astronomy in particular.
Very often, this role was not fully recognized, or not recognized at all, during their lifetime. “Voices of Women Astronomers” aims to tell the story of these women’s lives but especially their contributions, highlighting the frequent obstacles they had to overcome to achieve significant results.
On this page, you can find the panels of the Voices of Women Astronomers exhibition and the profiles of the various astronomers featured.
The drawings were created by Laura Casu, Department of Chemistry at the University of Cagliari, and Cecilia Gangemi, 4th year B at Brotzu Scientific High School in Quartu Sant’Elena (through a School-Work Alternation project).
Special thanks to Angela Iovino (CuG INAF) for consulting and supporting the initiative.
