Blu App
The “Welcome Blu!” app is an interactive, multimedia, and inclusive ebook, designed by instructional designer Alessia Luca, with scientific consultation from Silvia Casu.
The ebook, designed as a tool for children and teachers in preschool and primary school, revolves around the character Blu and tells its story. Children can browse the ebook independently and choose whether to read the story or listen to it through the read aloud function. Various interactive icons intuitively guide interaction and “suggest” gestures to use. Simple single-finger interactions (tap, drag & drop, etc.) are designed to emphasize certain concepts, stimulate curiosity, and promote learning motivation.
The app was designed with the intent to experiment with strategies and tools for greater accessibility and inclusivity of content: thanks to high readability fonts (OpenDyslexic font), and the ability to choose the mode of content consumption (visual, auditory, etc.), the app is suitable for children with learning disorders such as dyslexia. Additionally, the Blu story cards are also available in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), a type of communication based on pictograms that is successfully used when readers are unable to use standard forms of communication like speech, and has proven very useful with children with autism spectrum disorders.
The app is complemented by multimedia content (Blu’s presentation video, printable versions of the story, audio, and some games) to use or download.
Have fun exploring it with Blu!
