What are Comets and What Makes these Objects so Fascinating?
And how can we study these minor bodies of the solar system constantly on the move?
An exhibition, designed by the Italian Space Agency (ASI), will tell us about the extraordinary mission of a probe, Rosetta, and its lander, Philae, in the exploration of the comet 67P Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
Through the exhibition, consisting of panels and scale models of the probe and lander, the long journey of Rosetta towards the comet is described, which began in 2004 but was conceived at least 10 years earlier with the aim of deciphering the mysteries of comets and the formation of the Solar System, just as the Rosetta Stone allowed us to do with hieroglyphs.
The panels show the long journey required to reach and enter orbit around the comet, using 3 Earth gravity assists and one from Mars, and observing the two asteroids Steins and Lutetia.
Every day, at the times specified in the schedule.
