Light in Astronomy 2017
from14 November 2017 to 17 November 2017
After the success of the 2015 and 2016 editions, this year the INAF-Osservatorio Astronomico di Cagliari (INAF-OAC) will also open its doors from November 14 to 17 with a special event: Light in Astronomy 2017.
During the event, you can visit us and explore our research facility both in the morning, exclusively for schools, and in the afternoon-evening for the general public.

MORNINGS WITH SCHOOLS
The mornings of November 14, 15, 16, and 17 will be dedicated to schools, with activities equally divided by type (primary school, lower secondary school, and upper secondary school).
Students will have the opportunity to participate in various activities, visit the museum of historical instruments, and attend a show at the Planetarium.
In particular, the planned activities are:
- “Einstein and the Elastic Universe,” a workshop on relativity. Organized by the association Laboratorio Scienza. Target: upper secondary school.
- “Treasure Hunt Discovering OAC,” a treasure hunt to visit the Observatory and learn about stars, planets, galaxies, and observational instruments. Target: primary school.
- “Let’s Build SRT,” a cutting and assembling activity of a cardboard model of the Sardinia Radio Telescope to discover how a radio telescope works. Target: lower secondary school.
EVENING OPENINGS TO THE PUBLIC
Starting from late afternoon, from 5 PM onwards, we will also welcome the general public, beginning, as always, with workshops for the little ones and a parallel visit to the museum area for those parents who want to leave the kids to play and learn in the workshops.
Every day there will be a different workshop from the series “Astrokids, Science is a Game.” In particular:
- Tuesday 14 “Newton and the Apple that Fell on His Head” (organized by Laboratorio Scienza), for ages 8 to 12 years;
- Wednesday 15 “Martina on the Planets” (organized by Silvia Casu), for ages 7 to 10 years;
- Thursday 16 “Second Star to the Right” (organized by Silvia Casu), for ages 7 to 10 years;
- Friday 17 “Journey to Jupiter with Galileo” (organized by Laboratorio Scienza), for ages 7 to 10 years.

- Thursday 16 at 6:30 PM, the Planetarium show “The Waltz of the Planets,” with speaker Paolo Soletta.

Finally, an unmissable event, the scientific theater!
IMPOSSIBLE THEATER ON STAGE AT THE OBSERVATORY: November 14 and 17 at 6:30 PM
The collaboration between INAF-OAC and the Teatro Impossibile association is becoming more intense. On the stage of the Auditorium, the theater company led by Elio Turno Arthemalle will perform a new show titled “Enigma Turing.”
The show will be staged Tuesday, November 14 at 6:30 PM with a repeat Friday 17 at the same time.
In this case, the show will be ticketed (€8 per person) and it will be necessary to book directly via the Teatro Impossibile email:
SCHOOL-WORK ALTERNATION WITH LICEO BROTZU OF QUARTU
For the occasion, 16 students from Liceo Brotzu di Quartu Sant’Elena will also be part of the OAC staff as part of a School-Work Alternation project. Guided and instructed by Silvia Casu, the students will follow the activities and will be directly involved in welcoming the public, explaining the history of the Observatory, and conducting workshops for the younger ones.
