Cagliari Festival of Science 2018

As usual, this year INAF-OAC is actively participating in the 11th edition of the Cagliari Festival of Science, with activities in Cagliari and its surroundings, in Oliena and Isili.
This year the theme of the Festival is “Science and Resources”. The word resources is used in the dual sense of Earth’s resources, to be preserved and protected, and the resources of science in relation to the apparatus and organizational environments with which science carries out research activities to grow in terms of knowledge.
Here are our proposals for the 2018 edition:
MAIN VENUE OF THE FESTIVAL (ExMa’, via San Lucifero, Cagliari): by reservation
- Friday, November 9, 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM: EXMA Conference Room Debate SPACE DEBRIS: THE ROLE OF SARDINIA AND SRT.IThe recent re-entry into the atmosphere and fall into the Pacific of the Chinese probe Tiangong has brought the issue of space debris back into the spotlight, objects of various sizes and types scattered in our atmosphere and potentially dangerous. What problems can they create? How can we keep them under control? What is the role of Sardinia and in particular the Sardinia Radio Telescope? Curated by Tonino Pisanu, INAF-OAC researcher. TARGET: adults and high school students.

How can we discover new ones? Is life possible on other planets? And how do we search for it? Martina Tremenda never stops asking questions. And we will try to answer… Curated by Silvia Casu, INAF-OAC researcher. TARGET: primary or lower secondary school students.

Impossible conversations with astronomers of the past. An interactive exhibition to discover the life and work of women who have written important pages for astronomy and astrophysics. CAGLIARI ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATORY (SELARGIUS)
Monday, November 12 and Tuesday, November 13, 6:30 PM: INAF-Cagliari Astronomical Observatory Planetarium, Selargius THE STARS TELL THEIR STORY: stellar evolution.
The show narrates the evolutionary cycle of stars, from their formation in molecular clouds to their final stages. During the show, some of the most important results achieved by INAF researchers in Cagliari will be presented. Curated by Sabrina Milia and Paolo Soletta, INAF-OAC communicators. SARDINIA RADIO TELESCOPE (SAN BASILIO)
Friday, November 9, 3 sessions: 9:30 AM; 11:00 AM; 3:30 PM: Sardinia Radio Telescope SRT – Science Research and Technology in San Basilio (Pranu sanguni).
Open day at the Sardinia Radio Telescope site, guided by INAF-OAC researchers and technologists. The purpose of the visit is to illustrate the motivations and characteristics of the SRT project. Managers: S. Casu, S. Milia, P. Soletta, M. Serrau.
