The ABC of the Universe

On the occasion of the Cagliari Science Festival 2012, an online project called “The ABC of the Universe” was launched, the astronomy glossary from the perspective of the staff at the Cagliari Observatory.

The ABC of the Universe

What you find here is our starting point for an astronomical glossary where you certainly won’t find all possible terms, but where each term holds a special meaning for the researchers and technologists at the Cagliari Observatory.
So you won’t find “Mercury” (for now…), but you will find “receivers”; there’s no “photosphere,” but you will find “X-ray binary systems.”
Each definition comes from the field experience of one of us. You might find incomplete explanations, perhaps, but definitely “personal,” our perspective on various topics.
The “ABC of the Universe” is therefore always a “work in progress”: the site launches on November 6, 2012, for the opening of the Cagliari Science Festival, but it will be updated, modified, and expanded as new topics, interests, and results emerge at the Cagliari Astronomical Observatory.

All that’s left is to wish you Happy Browsing!
