The latest INAF Board of Directors meeting marked an important moment in the history of the Cagliari Astronomical Observatory, recently merged with the Institute of Radio Astronomy in Bologna to create the Radio Astronomy Observatory (ORA) under the direction of Prof. Steven Tingay.

OAC returns to second-level structure

Resolution 15-16 of the Board of Directors adopts the proposals put forward by Prof. Tingay and indeed grants the status of second-level structure to both Institutes, laying the foundation for the creation of a new departmental scientific unit dedicated to Radio Astronomy, whose design and leadership have been entrusted to Professor Tingay.

The interim management of OAC, pending the completion of the Radio Astronomy Scientific Unit model trial, has been entrusted to Andrea Possenti, director of OAC until last July.
