Friday, September 29, 2017 marks the return of the European Researchers’ Night, an event promoted by the European Commission that offers a dual opportunity: for the public, to meet researchers and satisfy their scientific curiosities; for the researchers themselves, to share and explain their work and its importance in society to foster scientific and technological development.

For several years, the Astronomical Observatory of Cagliari (OAC) has enthusiastically participated in this event. For this edition as well, it will open its doors to the public, according to the activity program outlined below.

At the new Observatory location in Selargius (map), activities will begin in the afternoon at 5:00 PM with an Astrokids workshop for children aged 7-10 on the Sardinia Radio Telescope (SRT); simultaneously, other visitors will have the opportunity to chat with the OAC and SRT staff involved in scientific and technological research in the field of astronomy and astrophysics. The staff will be available for several hours to describe their work and answer visitors’ questions about it.

Following this, it will be possible to visit the OAC’s Museum of Historical Instruments and attend a Planetarium show, featuring a full-dome video projection on the wonders of the Universe.

Admission and participation in the aforementioned activities will be free of charge.

But that’s not all, because the Observatory also offers three tours of the Sardinia Radio Telescope site (in San Basilio), all on the same day, with two in the morning and one in the early afternoon. Participation in these tours will be possible ONLY BY ONLINE RESERVATION, to be made through the form at this address.

Visits to the SRT will also be free.

Below is a summary of the program with locations and times. Happy Researchers’ Night to everyone!
