Today, September 15, 2020, Nichi D’Amico has suddenly passed away.
It is a sad day for all of INAF, but for us at the Astronomical Observatory of Cagliari, it is even more painful because Nichi D’Amico was “our” president, the one who, despite his constant commitments in Rome, lived in Sardinia, frequently visited our offices, and “oversaw” his Sardinia Radio Telescope.
Without his skill and determination, the technological gem marked INAF would never have seen the light of day. SRT is just one of his many great achievements as a researcher, university professor, Director of INAF-OAC, and finally, President of INAF.
As colleagues and true friends, we share the grief of the family for this irreplaceable loss, beyond any rhetoric.
