Registrations for the second edition of the summer school “The radio of the cosmos: discovering radio telescopes and the invisible Universe” open on January 15, 2015.
The school
The 2015 summer school “The radio of the cosmos – discovering radio telescopes and the invisible Universe” is part of a scientific collaboration project between the Department of Physics of the University of Milan and the INAF-Osservatorio Astronomico di Cagliari (OAC), called “Development of advanced technologies in radio and microwaves” and funded under the Scientific Research and Technological Innovation Collaboration Agreement between the Autonomous Region of Sardinia and the Lombardy Region. The school also benefits from the collaboration of Sterrenlab, a company specialized in science communication and education, and the sponsorship of the Italian Astronomical Society (SAIT).
The school is in its second edition and will take place from August 30 to September 5, 2015.
The activities will revolve around the Sardinia Radio Telescope (SRT), a newly constructed radio telescope, among the most advanced in the world, and a valuable resource for both the growth of the Italian astrophysical community and scientific outreach. The summer school offers participating students the opportunity to spend a week gaining hands-on experience in the world of radio astronomy at the Sardinia Radio Telescope.
Through a rich and structured program, improved by the experience of the 2014 edition, students are introduced to the major scientific themes related to radio exploration of space and the use of the most advanced technologies available today for this task.
Locations and participants
The summer school takes place from Sunday August 30 to Saturday September 5 in Sardinia in the Municipality of Selargius, a few kilometers from Cagliari, at the INAF-Osservatorio Astronomico di Cagliari and the Sardinia Radio Telescope.
