Yesterday morning, February 13, 2018, a highly esteemed professor from Cagliari passed away: Sebastiano Seatzu.

As INAF – Astronomical Observatory of Cagliari, we are deeply affected and saddened by this great loss. We would like to express our condolences to the family with a heartfelt and recent memory, the last of a series of collaborations that lasted for many years.

It was only January 22 of this year, just three weeks ago, when a group of INAF researchers had the privilege of meeting Prof. Seatzu in the Aula Magna of the Palazzo delle Scienze in Cagliari during a wonderful teacher training project on scientific topics, which we also presented at the University of Sassari the following day.

Immediately, Professor Seatzu conveyed great enthusiasm and curiosity to us, fully aware of his important role – in addition to the many others he held in his long career – as a science communicator and a link between the Accademia dei Lincei and the entire academic and scientific community of Sardinia, a role he passionately shared with other eminent colleagues throughout Sardinia.

We will remember him as a most amiable and esteemed person, and we are, in our small way, proud to have been able to collaborate with the Professor before his sudden and very sad passing and to have shared with him a high and unforgettable moment for scientific dissemination in Sardinia.

Farewell, Professor, we will not forget you.
