The Libraries, Museums, and Third Mission Service is a branch of the Scientific Directorate responsible for coordinating and managing activities and projects related to Museums, Historical Archives, and Libraries (MAB).
The Service has a dual role. On one hand, it handles the activation and management of information resources and all services supporting scientific research (reference, interlibrary loan, document delivery), and on the other, it preserves, protects, and enhances a unique historical heritage consisting of valuable books, archival documentation, and ancient instruments. A few years ago, the INAF cultural heritage portal “Stardust,” www.beniculturali.inaf.it, was created. This digital platform not only gathers archival, bibliographic, and museum databases and a digital library but also serves as a showcase to promote activities and events aimed at enhancing cultural heritage and spreading astronomical knowledge.
