An RFI-mitigation scheme based on an adaptive filter has been developed for the Parkes Observatory. It was used with good results until the source of interference (a TV transmitter) was decommissioned – at best replica watches which point the system was dismantled.
A new design is underway for the new ‘ultra-wide bandwidth’ receiver now being built.
I will also describe a proof-of-concept prototype filter that was trialled at the 6-antenna array at Narrabri – the trial was successful, but challenges remain.
