INAF IN SEARCH OF EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIFE: HERE ARE THE FIRST RESULTS FROM THE SARDINIA RADIO TELESCOPE

On the occasion of the International Astronautical Congress (IAC), the Breakthrough Listen project and INAF present the first scientific results obtained with observations dedicated to the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) program conducted with the Sardinia Radio Telescope (SRT) of INAF in Sardinia. The study, which began in 2022, was conducted by a team of four young students from Cagliari and Bologna.

Introducing Gaia, the New Control Board for SRT Receivers

A study with authors from INAF, ASI, and the University of Cagliari on a new system for managing the electrical power supply of radio astronomical receivers has been published in IEEE Access. Thanks to Gaia, the name of the new board, it will be possible to remotely control the power on, operation, and calibration of many of the receivers with which the Sardinia Radio Telescope is equipped. No other radio telescope in the world has similar technology.

Federica Govoni is the New Director of INAF in Cagliari

Astrophysicist Federica Govoni has been appointed by the President of the National Institute of Astrophysics to the Directorate of the Astronomical Observatory of Cagliari (Inaf-Oac) from August 1, 2023, with a renewable three-year mandate. The appointment comes at a very important historical moment for INAF in Cagliari, where, after a long phase of technological renewal, the Sardinia Radio Telescope is preparing to become fully operational again to observe the sky with world-class instruments.
