Galaxies and galaxy clusters are the largest gravitationally bound systems of the Universe. Their physics and evolution is still under debate. At the OAC we work to understand:

- the origin and the evolution of the non-thermal component (magnetic fields and relativistic particles) in clusters and their impact on the physics of cluster-embedded galaxies by analyzing the polarized and total intensity radio emission;

- the galaxy evolution caused by the interaction with the surrounding medium through the observation of their stars and interstellar medium, in particular the neutral hydrogen that can be observed at radio frequencies;

- the active galactic nuclei dynamics at the center of galaxies and their role in regulating the galaxy evolution with observations at optical wavelengths, X-ray and radio, both continuum and spectral mode (e.g. CO, water and OH megamasers).
