Nichi D’Amico suddenly passed away. 

It is a sad day for the whole INAF, but for us at the Astronomical Observatory of Cagliari, it is even more painful because Nichi D'Amico was "our" president, the one who, despite constant commitments in Rome, lived in Sardinia, always visited our offices and "watched over" his Sardinia Radio Telescope.

Without his ability and his willfulness, the INAF technological jewel would never have seen the light of day. SRT is just one of his many and great merits as a researcher, university professor, Director of INAF-OAC and, finally, INAF President.

As colleagues and true friends, we join the pain of family members for this unbridgeable loss, beyond all rhetoric.
