Super-resolution for (radio) telescopes

Super-resolution for (radio) telescopes

One of the fundamental properties of filled-aperture telescopes is their angular resolution. The concept of super-resolution (SR) refers to various methods for improving the angular resolution of an optical imaging system (with a single entrance pupil) beyond the classical diffraction limit. The increased resolving power of single-dish telescopes through SR would make full use of their intrinsic fast scanning capabilities and wide field of view, as compared to interferometers.
In this talk I will discuss several viable approaches to achieve SR imaging with single-dish (radio) telescopes. I will also present the first successful demonstration of SR obtained using the active primary surface of the Sardinia Radio Telescope (SRT).
