Looking at the new worlds of the cosmos through the windows of spectroscopy and photometry
Over the past two decades it became clear that planets are ubiquitous around stars. The observed wide diversity of their orbital and physical properties has opened, and still is opening, fundamental questions about the formation of planetary systems, their evolution, and eventually their potential for habitability and detection tracers of life. I will briefly summarise the fantastic journey that led us to the present day knowledge on exoplanets and mention some of the exciting prospects for the future, focusing on results from high-resolution spectroscopy and photometry observations.
