Open position for CTA project - Deadline 2022 02 22

Do you have a master's degree in Physics, Astronomy or Engineering?

Do you love the world of astrophysics and frontier technologies?

Then you can participate in the competition announcement for a research grant just published on our website!

The project you can work on is the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA), the network of telescopes whose task will be to observe, from the ground, "high energy" phenomena such as Gamma Rays coming from explosions stars or supermassive black holes.

INAF is responsible for governing a consortium of countries around the world that will provide the Small Size Telescope (SST), 40 innovative and highly sensitive telescopes that will be located in the Atacama Desert in Chile.

The INAF-Astronomical Observatory of Cagliari, under the management of Alessio Trois, provides support for the development, verification, testing and commissioning of SST.

So... if you want to try your hand at this ambitious research project you can immediately apply to the just opened call for a research sign at OAC:

https://www.oa-cagliari.inaf.it/competitions.php

The selection is open to Italian and foreign citizens meeting the following minimum requirements:

- Masters degree in either Engineering, Physics or Astronomy - or an equivalent title.

The successful candidate will be involved in the following activities:

- Support to system engineering and Assembly, Integration, Testing and Verification (AIT / V) activities for the development of the SST telescopes of the CTA project.

No particular skills are required to apply even if a previous (albeit small) experience in research projects will also give some points more.

The annual gross salary of the grant is 26.000,00 Euros (twenty-six-thousand, roughly 1900 euros net per month).

The initial grant duration is 1 year. The funding availability allows an extension of the grant up to a total duration of 3 years depending on the favorable review of the supervisor.

Applicants should send their application form and documents (in PDF form) to inafoaca@pcert.postecert.it (from a certified e-mail for Italian citizens) including a CV, a list of publications, a complete list of qualifications suitable for the position, and copies of their degrees.
The Applicant must submit the application form in Italian (using Allegato A in this document) as well as any qualification/certificate presented for evaluation (in the form of Certification - Declaration in lieu of affidavit) using Allegato B.

The CV (in Italian or English) must be handwritten and signed in the form of Certification - Declaration in lieu of affidavit (see attached CV europass template). Please note that the last sentence in Italian of the template is mandatory!

For non-Italian applicants, at the end of this page you could find a translation of Allegato A and B, but it is meant only as help example.

Detailed information on the application, required documentation etc can be found here. The Deadline for application is 23:59 (CET) on 22/02/2022. Late submissions will not be considered.

Prospective applicants can contact Alessio Trois (alessio.trois@inaf.it) for further information and help with the application process.
