The new era of X-ray polarimetry, which began with the launch of IXPE in 2021, has shed new light on the physics of these systems, revealing accretion geometries that cannot be inferred from spectroscopy and timing studies alone. An important step forward is now required to move beyond a purely phenomenological or taxonomic classification of the polarimetric properties of this class of sources: the development of physically motivated spectropolarimetric models. Rather than relying on simulations aimed at providing only a qualitative comparison with the observations, these models should be directly applicable to spectropolarimetric studies, combining polarization measurements with simultaneous or complementary observations from X-ray spectroscopic observatories.
In this seminar, I will briefly review the spectropolarimetric properties of bright NS-LMXBs, with particular emphasis on the models developed, and currently under development, by the author and collaborators. I will also discuss their application to current and forthcoming observations, particularly in view of the forthcoming launch of the eXTP mission.

Dr. Ruben Farinelli, Osservatorio di Astrofisica e Scienza dello Spazio di Bologna (OAS, INAF)

Ruben Farinelli is a Researcher at the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF).
