{"id":4444,"date":"2022-09-08T17:47:26","date_gmt":"2022-09-08T15:47:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.oa-cagliari.inaf.it\/seminari\/ns-in-low-mass-x-ray-binaries-in-the-new-era-of-x-ray-polarimetry\/"},"modified":"2022-09-08T17:47:26","modified_gmt":"2022-09-08T15:47:26","slug":"ns-in-low-mass-x-ray-binaries-in-the-new-era-of-x-ray-polarimetry","status":"publish","type":"seminari","link":"https:\/\/www.oa-cagliari.inaf.it\/en\/seminars\/ns-in-low-mass-x-ray-binaries-in-the-new-era-of-x-ray-polarimetry\/","title":{"rendered":"NS in Low-Mass X-ray Binaries, in the New Era of X-ray Polarimetry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1734\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oa-cagliari.inaf.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Le-NS-in-binarie-X-di-piccola-massa-nella-nuova-era-della-polarimetria-X.png\" alt=\"NS in low-mass X-ray binaries, in the new era of X-ray polarimetry\" width=\"472\" height=\"379\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.oa-cagliari.inaf.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Le-NS-in-binarie-X-di-piccola-massa-nella-nuova-era-della-polarimetria-X.png 472w, https:\/\/www.oa-cagliari.inaf.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Le-NS-in-binarie-X-di-piccola-massa-nella-nuova-era-della-polarimetria-X-300x241.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 472px) 100vw, 472px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In this brief informal seminar, Massimo Cocchi, who joined the OACa staff last April, summarizes for the Observatory colleagues his scientific journey in the field of High Energy Astronomy, with a particular focus on recent activities: modeling and spectro-polarimetric observation of weakly magnetized neutron stars in low-mass binaries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Brief CV of Massimo Cocchi:<\/p>\n<p>Graduated in Physics in 1991 from the University of Rome &#8220;La Sapienza&#8221; with an experimental thesis in high-energy Astrophysics: spectroscopy and timing of Galactic sources in the Hard-X band, data collected from observational campaigns with stratospheric balloons.<br \/>\nFrom 1993 to 1996, scientific consultant at the data center (SOC and SDC) of the BeppoSAX space mission, as an expert on WFC X-ray monitors.<br \/>\nSubsequently, within the BeppoSax and Integral programs of IAS-Rome (CNR), expert on X-ray binaries with NS, with particular interest in the study of accretion and transient phenomena (especially X-ray bursts).<br \/>\nBecame a CNR researcher in 2001, and later in INAF, he led a theoretical-observational PRIN project (2008-2010) to test accretion models.<br \/>\nSince 2011, he has largely abandoned observational work to focus on modeling: X-ray radiative transport near compact objects with low magnetic fields, using Monte Carlo codes designed and implemented ad hoc.<br \/>\nSince 2020, he has been a member of several working groups of the IXPE polarimetric mission, always related to weakly magnetized binary sources.<br \/>\nHe officially (and happily) &#8220;transferred&#8221; to OACa in April 2022<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-4444","seminari","type-seminari","status-publish","hentry","categorie_seminari-colloquium"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.oa-cagliari.inaf.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/seminari\/4444","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.oa-cagliari.inaf.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/seminari"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.oa-cagliari.inaf.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/seminari"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.oa-cagliari.inaf.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=4444"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
