Officially presented during a press conference on October 17, the VII edition of the Cagliari Festival Scienza starts on November 4, 2014. A packed schedule of events, including conferences, debates, shows, workshops, and scientific animations, will introduce students and audiences of all ages to the fun side of science for 5 days. This year, however, with a particular focus on the “useful side” of science: the theme chosen for the 2014 edition is indeed “Science helps us<\/strong>.” <\/p>\n

This year again, the festival’s schedule features a strong presence from the Cagliari Observatory.
\nHere’s the program of our activities:<\/p>\n

Wednesday November 5, 9:00 AM, ExMa’ Educational Room<\/strong>: Workshop “Stereo-images: the world from 2D to 3D<\/strong>“, curated by Franco Buffa, Silvia Casu, Sabrina Milia, and Tonino Pisanu. Discover how our vision works and how we can reconstruct the three-dimensional world with 2D images. <\/p>\n

Wednesday November 5, 12:00 PM, <\/strong>ExMa’ Conference Room<\/strong>: Show conference “Astronomy is great, but what’s it for?<\/strong>“, by and with Sabrina Milia. A semi-serious monologue between prejudices and clich\u00e9s, with a touch of (self)irony, to understand the many practical, common and less common applications of modern astronomy. <\/p>\n

Wednesday November 5, 9:00 PM, ExMa’ Conference Room<\/strong>: Show “By Jove! Space and asteroids” <\/strong>, curated by and with Ignazio Porceddu and Elio Turno Arthemalle (Teatro Impossibile). Between ancestral fears and real risks, a journey to discover comets and asteroids. <\/p>\n

Thursday November 6, 9:00 AM, ExMa’ Educational Room<\/strong>: Workshop “Maxwell and the waves that changed the world<\/strong>“, curated by Silvia Casu and Sabrina Milia. A virtual journey to discover electromagnetic waves and their use in daily life, explaining the invisible \u201ccolors\u201d of our Universe. <\/p>\n

Friday November 7, 9:30 AM; 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM<\/strong>: guided tours of the Sardinia Radio Telescope. By mandatory reservation, instructions on the SRT visits page. <\/p>\n

Saturday November 8, 9:00 AM, ExMa’ Educational Room<\/strong>: Workshop “Radio waves: the invisible side of the Universe<\/strong>“, by Silvia Casu and Sabrina Milia. Workshop to discover how a radio telescope works and how radio images are constructed. <\/p>\n

The Festival is an opportunity to learn about science in a simple and engaging way. Six days of events with physics, chemistry, natural sciences, and mathematics told through a rich variety of languages and activities to engage young and old, schools and families, researchers and ordinary citizens.
