The new year begins with good news for the Astronomical Observatory.<\/p>\n
Andrea Tarchi and Paola Castangia<\/strong>, researchers at the Astronomical Observatory of Cagliari in the field of extragalactic radio astronomy, are among the authors of the article (“The 1.4 GHz radio properties of hard X-ray selected AGN<\/a>“, Panessa et al. 2015) from which the Picture of the Month (POM, in the figure) of INTEGRAL, one of the European Space Agency’s X-ray astronomy satellites, was taken.<\/p>\n In the article, the authors show that they have found a significant correlation between the X-ray and radio wave luminosities of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) that are part of the AGN sample observed by INTEGRAL. For the comparison, they used radio data from two “surveys” – essentially “all-sky” observations – one conducted in America (NRAO VLA Sky Survey, NVSS) and the other in Australia (Sydney University Molonglo Sky Survey, SUMSS). <\/p>\n Interestingly, the opening POM of 2015 comes three years after another “Christmas” POM obtained at the end of 2011 by the same authors (Tarchi et al. 2011<\/a>).<\/p>\n Congratulations to Andrea, Paola, and their collaborators for their work and the recognition they received!<\/p>\n Read the news in English on the European Space Agency’s website<\/a>.
